Dr. Nadene Tipton
Nadene Tipton was born in Fargo, North Dakota and was inspired to become an orthodontist during treatment as a teenager with Dr. Bill Kimbrough in Kingwood, Texas. After graduating dental school and completing her orthodontic residency at Baylor College of Dentistry, she and her husband opened their combined ortho-pedo practices in Lubbock, Texas in 1994. For 31 years, they practiced together before “repurposing” in May, 2025.
During those practice years, Nadene accomplished several firsts. She was the first female orthodontist in the Lubbock area (and 5th female dentist of which now there are greater than 60), she was the first female to receive TOSC’s CT Rowland award and was the first female to serve as president of her children’s school board. Other endeavors include teaching orthodontics at TAMU for 9 years, serving as TOSC president in 2020, installing a dental exhibit at the children’s museum (including commissioning construction of a giant dental arch), and creating the “West Texas Women in Dentistry” group. Recently she has served as chair for the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra gala, is working on anti-vaping initiatives for teenagers, and has rejoined her church ensemble playing her flute.
Her proudest achievement, however, was building a life together with Roger and raising their 3 boys, Ashton, Ben and Myles and welcoming daughters in law Samantha and Jennie.
Significant orthodontic influences:
- Dr. Mike Plunk: demonstrated the joy of orthodontics and lifelong learning
- Dr. Gayle Glenn: demonstrated finishing cases and humility
- Dr. Phil Campbell: demonstrated discernment and wisdom
- TOSC colleagues: demonstrated excellence by encouragement and example
